This programme which is financed by Europe and the Reunion Regional Council is the first of this magnitude in the region. The study intends to evaluate the genetic diversity of the green turtle in the region, identify the various sub-populations and identify their foraging distributions. When complete it will prove possible to determine a sound conservation strategy for the region. The project was awarded a scholarship from the Regional Council in 2005.
